Unit’s description and purpose

Standards & Pricing (S&P) within Fairtrade International is responsible for developing (i.e. preparing, reviewing, amending, adapting) and revising Fairtrade Standards by following Standard setting procedures (SOP), which define core procedural principles complaint with ISEAL Code. We bring Fairtrade's vision to life through our Standards by developing ideas and building consensus. 

We support implementation and assurance, monitor impact, and continuously strive for improvement. 

Producers and traders must meet applicable standards for their products to be certified as Fairtrade.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently and strategically conceptualize and manage standard review projects following standard setting operating procedures
  • Senior level stakeholder engagement primarily of, but not limited to, standard review projects team members
  • Drive and shape the development, management and communication of Fairtrade Standards, with a constant focus on innovation for standard setting methodologies, evaluation and consultation
  • Analyse data corresponding to standard review consultation and audit results and produce written reports with analysis and key insights that include further inputs from thematic experts and leads within Fairtrade International system
  • Effectively presenting to internal and external audiences including Standards Committee for decision making around standard revisions
  • Provide training and mentorship to Project Managers Standards and Student Assistants as needed
  • Act as main point of contact for standard related questions within assigned area of responsibility

SKILLS REQUIRED

Level of education: The position holder will have a bachelor’s degree in development, economics, business, agriculture or another relevant field.

Years of professional experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant area of work.

  • Problem – solving oriented and independent work style
  • Expert knowledge of small farmers’ and workers’ social and economic conditions in developing countries
  • Excellent analytical, research, writing, and presentation skills

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • This is a part-time (70%) position within Fairtrade International
  • Location is at Fairtrade International offices in Bonn, Germany with the opportunity for hybrid work arrangements
  • The office language is English
  • Salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Wholesale and Foreign Trade Industries for North Rhine Westphalia Group 6a and over tariff payments
